Anne Holman Born in: Cleveland, Ohio Birthdate: Year of the Goat Last Updated: Mon, Apr 14, 2008 Personal Contact: anne@anneholman.com Website: http://www.anneholman.com/
I attended the Columbus College of Art and design, receiving my BFA in printmaking. I discovered a passion for working with non ferrous metals while etching, polishing, cutting and evenually reconstructing objects from intaglio printing plates. Now, I make, from sterling silver and mixed materials, small jewelry pieces to wall sized installations.
In addition to my gallery work, I have a line of sterling silver jewelry that is sold at a number of retail and gallery locations as well as my online shop at anneholman.etsy.com.
I share my studio with my son Tristan, an honorary Couchfire member and emerging artist.
Maps, numbers, data, theories of time, history, artifacts, archeology, anthropology, handwriting, language, outdated 'facts', repetition, organization, science, politics, evolution, unconventionality, communication devices, value, decorative arts, trivia, cultural trends....
Andy Goldsworthy, Maya Lin, Tom Friedman, Edward Tufte, Richard Attenborough, Jan Yager, minimalism, Droog Design, mid-century design, Japanese aesthetics, Thich Nhat Hanh, Dalai Lama, contemporary sustainable architecture, technology design, scientific diagrams, statistics, mapping technology, satellite images, information design, synchronicity, craftivism, textiles, traditional crafts in the modern world, innovators, my peers, self motivated individuals, those who never give up in the face of adversity.
Living in a time when technology allows us to instantly transmit infinite amounts of information, it seems that every aspect of life and the world around us can be specifically identified, categorized, defined and owned.
The methods we rely upon to communicate and navigate through the constant influx of information we encounter on a daily basis fascinate me.
Borrowing visual elements, numbering systems and colors from such things as topographical maps, scientific diagrams, language and computer coding, I revisit an existing model, or create a new way to digest and reflect upon this information.
While examining the significant influence of communication and the dissemination of information on our culture, I hope to raise the viewers acknowledgment of where we place value by composing desirable forms created from data, language and mapping.
